Paintings Drawings
Through the process of working, these paintings have helped me study the relationships not only between the physicality of the paint and the coarseness of the canvas, but the weight of knowledge in an observer’s window of human interaction. The tension between subject matter and the rhythm of colors and shapes are extremely vital to the piece- often altering the scheme portrayed. Images are simplified with the blocks of color to create a textured reality that is sympathetic to our own senses and familiarity. The dialogue between the revealed image and the fundamental psychology provide a steady motivation in my art.

I have often told people who had inquired quite simply that nostalgia and narrative encompass the undertones in my work- I look at these elements solely within my world and the inspiration I gain through a cohesion of events that I have a particular sentiment about. In the world I know, there are fleeting moments which can conjure up a familiarity to a variety of people, though I use this flicker of
understanding for reflection primarily to fuel the imagery. I like that there is no standard of normalcy for how a person lives life. Human beings represent beings of complexity, starting from the moments of birth reacting to new experiences. They encompass attitude, personality, rationality, and routine. They fulfill a
strategy of displacement, observation, and retain enigmatic qualities.

My intent with this body of work covered scattered information through current events, documentaries on personal tribulations and national topics which enabled me to push the envelope of narrative. There are many occurrences that society takes behavioral cues or perceptions from and I am interested in transforming these avenues into complex imagery. My work procures a deconstruction of the figural relationships inquired within the canvas- the various moments captured in one piece intend on reclaiming the familiarity I have once experienced and wish to rejuvenate for the viewer. There is validity in bringing out specific iconography or happenings that stimulate me to be shared. For although it was society that has
both directly and indirectly shaped my being as a person, it was painting that allowed me to internalize it. All this information fuels the world as I know it, the way I developed, and the way I continue to see things.
